Dear Mary is a departure from my previous albums in that it is an offering of simplistic melodic phrasing in a neoclassical style.

The songs were inspired by characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s world of middle earth and each given titles synonymous with those characters. However, in my own interest in reading his works, I was most fascinated with his distinctions of allegory and applicability. Whereas Tolkien discouraged readers from drawing conclusions of authorial intent (allegory), my own interpretation of his writing always lead down the road to the applicability of the Catholic faith. Hence, the EP title “Dear Mary” applying deep affection towards Mary, the Mother of God.

Therefore, the real treasure of this EP is found in the accompanying scores intended for pianist of all levels. Like Tolkien’s understanding of applicability it is up to the performer to see an interpretation and meaning in their performance that I may have never considered. Scores are available for the entire EP.
